Piedmont Broadcasting Corporation
June 1, 2006
Narrative Statement
In the last year, there have been two full time positions available, a 7- midnight air personality and a Creative Radio Professional. There has been a very low employee turnover rate in our two stations at Piedmont Broadcasting Corporation, which has resulted in greater than average length of seniority among our employees. To illustrate this point, it should be noted that our five most senior employees have an average employment tenure of 33.4 years, our full time employees and average tenure of 14.91, and all of our employees an average tenure slightly more than 12.2years. At the same time, our community is small with very limited interest in broadcasting as a career. Thus, it has been difficult to maintain a "pool of interest" on a consistent basis in spite of our many outreach efforts over the years, We participated in a Career Fair on March 8, 2006 at Danville Community Market. This was sponsored by the Career Development and Placement Center of Danville Community College. There were 50 companies represented at this event to answer questions about employment opportunities.
As an additional means of addressing this concern, we were able to establish an internship program with the Virginia Association of Broadcasters in Danville, which provides an opportunity for a communications student to work eight weeks this summer and be directly exposed to radio broadcasting as potential career. This took place June 6 through July 29. 2005.
