Narrative Statement

In the past year there have been two full time positions available. There is a very low employee turnover rate in our two radio stations at Piedmont Broadcasting Corporation, which has resulted in a greater than average length of seniority among our employees.

The five most senior employees have an average employment tenure of 34.6 years, while our full time employees average 18.55 years and all employees (full and part time) have an average tenure of 12.94 years. At the same time, our community is small with very limited interest in broadcasting as a career. Thus, it has been difficult to maintain a "pool of interest" on a consistent basis in spite of our many outreach efforts over the year.

Our outreach programs for the past year include the following:

March 23, 2010 we participated in the Career and Networking Fair sponsored by Averett and DCC.  There were 26 participating companies at this event.

We worked with the Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB) to secure an intern for this summer.  We ran commercials January 11, 2010 through February 11, 2010 promoting the internship.  We had a number of persons to apply.  This resulted in one of the applicants meeting the criteria to fill the summer intern position.  This person reported to work on May 24th, 2010.

We were contacted by Averett University in regards to working with a most qualified student seeking advanced study accreditation.   A second intern position was approved in agreement with Averett University.
