Danville Tips for driving in the snow... January 2005
(snow tips for everyone east of the Mississippi)
***
Half of America is covered in a blanket of snow right now, so here are some winter car & driver tips:

*If you hit a patch of ice and suddenly lose control of your car, try to hit something cheap.

*If you don't have an ice scraper, old cassette tape boxes work pretty well.

*If your lock is frozen, heat the key with a lighter.  You will burn your hand holding the hot key, which will fall into the snow and get lost.  Then you can go back inside and stay put because you shouldn't be driving anyway.

*In case you get stuck, keep a shovel and orange marker in your car.  You can write "HELP" on the shovel and hold it up on the side of the road.

*Keep food in your car in case you get stranded.  If you wrap a pizza in foil, you can cook it on the engine block.  Or better yet, use your cell phone to see if you can get someone to deliver.

*You know all those socks you only have ONE of?   Put them all in your car.  If you get stranded, you can cut the toes out of them and put them on your arms and legs - instant long-johns!

*Fill your window washer reserve with Scotch.  It won't freeze, and if you get stuck, you'll need a drink.
